View Full Version : order of lines in resolv.conf

Hi,

we experienced some problems resolving hosts after I added a line with domain definition. We found that the order of lines with "domain" and "search" entries is relevant: if domain follows search, the list of domainnames for searching will not be followed. It only works if search follows domain definition.

Anyone here who ca say if this is a bug or a feature?!

Ah, btw: SLES 11 SP1

Regards,
Jan

- From the resolv.conf manpage:

The domain and search keywords are mutually exclusive. If more than one
instance of these keywords is present, the last instance wins.

(note, taken from my OpenSUSE 12.1 system)

So... don't do that.

Good luck.

Technically, there can only be one, either domain or search.. some distros and
some OS's get this wrong.

No worries; this was probably a learning experience for all three of
us... certainly for both you and me.

Good luck.
