View Full Version : Accessing server from DLNA devices possible?

Is there any way to set up a SLES server to be accessed from specified DLNA enabled devices such as satellite receives and smart TVs? I've been searching everywhere and about the only thing I can seem to find is VLC and I cannot get it to install on SLES. I don't care about being able to actually play any media on the server just access my flies that are stored there.

Hi
So you wanting to stream from the server? Well VLC from videolan should
work fine on SLE, if you have the packman version installed, then that
needs removing;

zypper ar -f http://download.videolan.org/SuSE/SLE11/
zypper in vlc-noX

The configure the noX version to stream as required.

Similar problem with that installation as with everything else I've tried.

Problem: nothing provides libz.so.1(ZLIB_1.2.0.2)(64bit) needed by vlc-noX-2.0.9-2.11.x86_64

me@mysles:~> rpm -qf /lib64/libz.so.1
zlib-1.2.7-0.10.128
zlib package is included in SLES, do you have it installed?

Hi
You could also try miniDLNA (an OBS home user has built)?
http://software.opensuse.org/package/minidlna
Just remember to open firewall ports...

zlib and zlib-32 both show as installed with version 1.2.3-106.34 I just updated everything so not sure why it wouldn't be at the most recent version.

My output was from SLES 11 SP 3, so that'll be why the zlib versions are different.

Try miniDLNA as Malcom suggested, there's a SLES 11 SP2 package for that (unsupported of course). I use miniDLNA to access video on my Samsung TV and it works well. (I don't run it on SLES though, the box I use is is ARM not x86.)
