Me neither, think that goes for a lot of us:) Just hope this turns out
positive; time will tell.
Looking at their products, most overlap with NetIQ i think. Wonder what
they are most interested in... a platform for their develop and testing
tools (SuSE)?
FWIW a positive point to me I feel it's is a UK based company, so that
may enlarge the focus on Europe in general.

Hey sveld:

It think overlap seems to be in Attachmate products as they seem to
deal with mainframe stuff mostly.

Yeah yeah:) Know the existence of Cobol and even used Borland a looong
time ago.. just never linked that to Micro Focus. Always something new
to learn
Will be an interesting BS again with these new developments ;)

I can see the connection between Micro Focus and Attachmate, they are
both home to a whole bunch of really old software that is really only
for existing customers.
The main concern for me is that both Novell and NetIQ have modern
forward looking products that don't seem to sit logically with the rest
of the portfolio.
It almost paints Novell & NetIQ with the same brush of being a "legacy"
application set - something that they are definitely not.

You have to look at it in just a slightly different way. Having
expanded portfolio between current and legacy will now allow Micro
Focus to move some customers to more modern products if it's in the
customer's best interest.

And Microfocus would see the same things Attachmate saw when they
acquired NetIQ and then Novell.

Think so too. There are more connections; as MF does mainframe and also
does have SAP products which connects them to SuSE for me. For the
products MF offers they may be very interested in the SuSE Studio
solution (appliances), as in the same way Novell uses SuSE (iPrint,
Filr).
