Hello,

I noticed today the announcement about the SP4 for SLES 11. Im wondering if the SP4 is allready available via OnlineUpdate (Zypper), as I can't find any patch with "SUSE_SLES-SP4-migration".

Also: grep '<product' /etc/products.d/*.prod
<product id="sle-11-server" schemeversion="0">
<productline>sles</productline>
<producttheme>SLES</producttheme>

Doesn't show the migration, i followed all step it the administration guide for SLES 11 SP4 to update via zypper.

Thanks in advance.

Since it just came out it might be that it takes a while before it gets out to the update channels... You can always download the ISO and do the upgrade through media.

Hi I just waited until today, and there is not SP4 migration available on all our servers. Upgrading via Media is no option for me, as we run alot virtualized machines.

I followed:

1.) Run zypper ref -s to refresh all services and repositories.
2.) Run zypper patch to install package management updates.
3.) grep '<product' /etc/products.d/*.prod
/etc/products.d/sle-hae.prod:<product id="sle-ha-11-sp3" schemeversion="0">
/etc/products.d/sle-hae.prod: <productline>sle-ha</productline>
/etc/products.d/sle-hae.prod: <producttheme>SLES</producttheme>
/etc/products.d/SUSE_SLES.prod:<product id="sle-11-server" schemeversion="0">
/etc/products.d/SUSE_SLES.prod: <productline>sles</productline>
/etc/products.d/SUSE_SLES.prod: <producttheme>SLES</producttheme>

As you can see there is no migration. Do you have a clue why they're missing?

It has not been released yet, stay tuned...

Because it's still being sorted out by SUSE. Please be patient.

Note the correct zypper process is documented @
https://www.suse.com/documentation/sles11/book_sle_deployment/data/sec_update_sle11sp3.html
but it first needs SUSE to public the migration patch.

The SP4 migration patch has been released.
You can use zypper to do the upgrade as normal.

Strange, I don't see the migration patch.

"zypper search migration" or "zypper search sp4" don't show anything concerning SP4.

Many greetings,

Stephan

The migration patch is actually a product which you'll see if you do
"zypper se -t product".

Please see section 7.0 Updating SUSE Linux Enterprise of the SLES
Deployment Guide[1], in particular section 7.7 Updating SLE 11 SP3 to
SLE 11 SP4[2].

Hello, smflood!

Thanks for your answer!

The migration patch is actually a product which you'll see if you do
"zypper se -t product".

Well, that is interesting. All systems connected to our SMT server are seeing the migration patch. But the SMT server itself doesn't see it. Can't I upgrade the SMT server yet?

And I'm a little confused about the repo URLs. The SMT server is using https://nu.novell.com/repo/ for its own updates. If I view my subscriptions for this registered SMT server I see the available products with URLs in the form https://updates.suse.com/repo/. If I change the URL in the repo file I get a 404 error.

Any ideas what this problem can be?

Many greetings,

Stephan

I trust your SMT server is currently running SMT11 SP3 on SLES11 SP3?
SMT11 SP3 is supported on SLES11 SP4 but it needs to be running latest
SMT code to support it.

There are two aspects to the migration patch - one is a patch which
updates some SLE11 SP3 packages (but doesn't upgrade anything) and the
other is the product which handles preparing for the migration (upgrade)
to SLE11 SP4.

When SLE12 was released SUSE also launched a new SUSE Customer Center
(SCC). By default SMT connects to the Novell Customer Center (NCC) and
needs to manually be switched to use the SCC - see TID 7015836[1].

Well, "zypper ref" and "zypper update" don't show anything, so, yes, I expect the SMT server to have the latest updates for SLES11 SP3 and SMT11 SP3. That's why I'm wondering why I don't see the migration patch.

The SMT service is switched to the SCC. But the SMT server isn't using the SMT service but is directly registered with Novell/Suse using the nu.novell.com addresses not the updates.suse.com addresses which I'm seeing when I log into my Novell/Suse service account and view the available products list for this SMT server (the server itself not the SMT service).

Many greetings,

Stephan
