We've heard news from the brother of Patrick that Patrick received a
very bad injury where his esophagus was torn. Thoracic surgery was
supposed to have been performed some time today. This is a serious
injury, but his brother doesn't think it's life threatening. It will,
however, likely have long-term effects on Patrick's life.

What I've read from his brother's FB page is this happened when
Patrick was eating pizza, so I'm guessing a large bite of a hard
crust ended up lodging somewhere in his esophagus.

We'll probably know more on Wednesday. I've posted to his brother to
please let Patrick know that we're all thinking of him, hoping for
the best results in the surgery and a very quick recovery.

Yes, indeed. Patrick is out of surgery and in recovery. Per his
brother, they took one of Patrick's ribs and some cartilage to repair
the esophagus. He's in quite a bit of pain, now. The operation has a
70% success rate, and, assuming there are no complications, his
recovery period will be a couple of months.

Sad news - definitely will have to touch base with him. Thanks for the
info/updates.
