As I understand it you need to upgrade from SLES10SP2->SLES10SP3->SLES10SP4 and after that to SLES11SP3, personally I recommend doing offline upgrade through DVD media.

Hi bakyaeaj,

if TSM is the only application running on that system and as the installed SLES version is extremely old, I'd rather suggest to go with a fresh install instead of an upgrade. As thomas already pointed out, the only supported update path is going through all the intermediate versions, including upgrading those to the latest packages. This may well no longer be available for the older versions of SLES.

Also note that the current level is SLES11SP4. According to http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21243309#linx8664part, SLES11SP4 is supported.

As the machine will be probably rather old as well, you might also consider upgrading the hardware, too. That way you could set up the replacement system while the old TSM server is still running.

How does TSM recommend to update? If you can upgrade TSM first (on the old OS), you could then test your TSM database recovery mechanisms by trying to restore it to the freshly set up TSM server on SLES11SP4...

Hi All..

Thanks for your reply.

For testing purpose ,I have installed 10 sp2 on a VM .And updated directly using 11 sp2 bootable DVD.

So what is the difference between above method and going all the intermediate levels.

In case something went wrong (and you didn't notice yet), you won't get support when you ask SUSE about it.

Each update makes assumptions about the previous system and the according scripts will only deal with known situations. In other words, the update may face "problems" that would have been worked around by earlier updates.

Hi,

We have SLES10 sp2 license which was expired in 2011. We are planning to upgrade to 11sp2 by going all intermediate levels.

When we purchase 11sp2, is it possible to have 10 sp3 and 10 sp4. or else we need to purchase all.

Thanks

When you purchase a license for SLES you get a registration code which
you can use with SLES10 SPx, SLES11 SPx, or SLES12 SPx.

You'll therefore be able to (re)register your SLES10 SP2 to update it,
then upgrade to SLES10 SP3, then again to SLES10 SP4, before upgrading
to SLES11 SPx. As has previously been noted, SLES11 SP2 is now out of
support as is SLES11 SP3 so you should really be thinking about
upgrading to SLES11 SP4 which you can do directly once you've upgraded
from SLES10 SP2 to SLES10 SP4 via SLES10 SP3.
