View Full Version : Preparing RasPi SD card for SLES with a Windows PC

Hello,

assuming that not everybody has a Linux/Mac workstation or laptop where s/he can run the "xz -cd IMAGE | dd of=/dev/SDCARDDEV bs=4096" command described on http://tinyurl.com/slespi, what would be the appropriate commands / tools to prepare a new SD card image with SLES with a Windows PC?

Is it recommended to use the WSL of Windows 10 for that, or are there other possibilities?

Regards,
Hannes

With Windows, once you have extracted the image from the .xz file
(perhaps using 7-Zip) I would use the third-party Win32DiskImager
utility as per the Raspberry Pi Foundation's own installation guide[1].

Thanks Simon,

this is what I found as well, it describes the process pretty well: https://www.suse.com/documentation/suse-best-practices/sles-rpi-quick/data/sles-rpi-quick.html#sec_rpi_installation

Unfortunately, this excellent document is not available on http://tinyurl.com/slespi. Only the generic SUSE documentation is linked from there. Let me ask the team to have a look and change that accordingly.

Thanks - I hadn't come across Easy 7-Zip.

That would be useful, or perhaps the above page should just have a link
to your first URL instead of assuming Linux? I guess we'll let the
documentation decide.

Thanks.
