Thread: installing gcc on SUSE Enterprise Server 12 SP4

  1. installing gcc on SUSE Enterprise Server 12 SP4

    Hello

I tried to install gcc on SUSE Enterprise Server 12 SP4 with the following command:

    Code:
    zypper install gcc
    I got the following output:

Problem: nothing provides gcc48 needed by gcc-4.8-6.38.aarch64
Solution 1: do not install gcc-4.8-6.38.aarch64
Solution 2: break gcc-4.8-6.38.aarch64 by ignoring some of its dependencies
Even after selecting solution 2, gcc can't be used.

I used the same command on SUSE 15 and it worked well.

How can I install gcc on SUSE 12 SP4?

    Please advise.

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Forum
I have an open bug report on this since SLES 12 SP2 (on the RPi3), https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1063792 (Not sure if you can see it).

It should be available via the Toolchain or SDK modules, are these added on your aarch64 system?

    Thank you for your reply.

I can't access the bug report.
    I am also using a RPi3.
Not sure if the Toolchain or SDK modules are installed. How can I get them? Are they free once you purchased a SUSE license?

I got the SDK (DVD1) from here: https://download.suse.com/index.jsp
Installed it with YaST ('C/C++ Compiler and Tools' only) and got gcc 4.8.5.
    Problem solved. Thank you!

    Hi
Yes, they are free module, you add them via SUSEConnect command as root
    user;

    Code:
    SUSEConnect --list-extensions
This will show them as well as then command to add, I see you obtained
via the SDK, doing above will aslo add the update repositories so the
system will be kept up to date
