    Install From USB

    I am trying to install SLES12 sp3 on a Lenovo SR650 server.

I used Rufus to create a bootable USB drive. I selected DD image mode as suggested.

The only folder on the USB is EFI. The SLES12sp3 DVD 1 installation files are not there even though I selected them.

However the server says it cannot find a bootable device.

I have done the F12 one time boot option and set to legacy BIOS.

I'm not finding any documentation as to what could be wrong and am lost.

    Any assistance is appreciated,

    Thank you.

    Hi
Have another SLE or openSUSE system around, install imagewriter and use that..... AFAIK is a isohydrid so just dd should work.

    Code:
    fdisk -l SLE-12-SP3-Server-DVD-x86_64-GM-DVD1.iso

    Disk SLE-12-SP3-Server-DVD-x86_64-GM-DVD1.iso: 3.59 GiB, 3836739584 bytes, 7493632 sectors
    Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    Disklabel type: dos
    Disk identifier: 0x1285b34e

Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type

I only have SLES 12sp3 servers.

I downloaded the .ymp file. Not sure how to install it from there.

    Thank you!

    Hi
    You need the rpm.....

    https://download.opensuse.org/reposi...1.1.x86_64.rpm

    Code:
    zypper in imagewriter-1.10.1420800585.134a9b3-1.1.x86_64.rpm

I ended up using Etcher and my USB boots to the SLES install just fine.

    # su
    # umount /dev/sdb1
    # df -h

2.) Write new msdos partition table
    # fdisk /dev/sdb
    o
    w

    3.) check partition table
    # fdisk /dev/sdb
    p
    q

4.) install iso image on usb memory stick
    # dd if=SLE-15-Installer-DVD-x86_64-GM-DVD1.iso of=/dev/sdb

    See:
