gparted in SLES 10.4 does not support expanding of reiser partitions

I had a reiser partition, on a disk, which I wanted to enlarge - but
the gparted of SLES10SP4 could not expand the partition , because it
claimed, that it was already expanded.

After several fruitless attempts I started gparted from a knoppix cd
and voila - the partition now is enlarged and SLES10SP4 is happy with
    the new bigger partition.
