sorry about that - I'm not familiar with the System Z environment, maybe there needs to be a different parameter specified? (I looked this up on a SELS12SP1 Intel, where Dracut is used as the boot environment. In it's sources, I see that "rd_LVM_LV" is specified as deprecated predecessor of "rd.lvm.vg")

The idea behind my suggestion is that typically, the boot environment only auto-activates those VGs needed for the boot (so most importantly the VG where your root LV resides). If you need extra VGs activated, you typically have means to specify those. In SLES11, there was a file /etc/sysconfig/lvm with the variable LVM_VGS_ACTIVATED_ON_BOOT, but the mechanism has changed with Dracut.
