# Define external (RDS) service

How can I define an external service (and also its endpoint of course) using `docker-compose.yml` ?

The example [here](http://rancher.com/docs/rancher/latest/en/cattle/adding-external-services/) only indicates how to provide the endpoint url for `rancher-compose.yml`

How do we go about it in `docker-compose.yml`?

e.g. do we declare something like:

```
version: '2'
services:
  db:
    image: rancher/external-service
    endpoint: <amazon-rds-endpoint> 
  redis:
    image: redis

```
