… I modify the rights to a shared folder in Windows and stare at the hourglass for 10 minutes while it alters every file and subfolder underneath it, I think to myself “How did THIS piece of carp ever win out over NetWare?” ---

OES 11 is quite good.[/color] Well I am actually playing with OES11 SP2 right now and right off the bat the installer barfed with “Failed OES Preconfig. This is a problem worth reporting to Novell.” 🙂 Just downloaded off Novell this AM and the md5sums are correct so it is a shipping bug. Not seeking support, just providing feedback. These are the kinds of things that don’t instill confidence. Didn’t even get to a login before it starts throwing errors. ---

So, no way to check if it’s been submitted already. Clicking on Enter a Bug report, gives me a page: “This webpage has a redirect loop.” and bombs. What can I say except. Wow. ---

I’ve got it installed and running, but there’s a level of fit an finish lacking from the old Netware days. The SLES stuff is fine obviously but the OES side seems a bit half baked still. I mean less than an hour and mucking about in support forums? This is why MS won. I’m sure I can make it sing and never visit the forum but the level of time and effort is inordinately high. Granted the payoff might be worth it, but most won’t bother, opting to go the ‘easy’ route with Windows and pay for that ease on the backend with a management nightmare. Needs to be simpler and less buggy. Any word on the migration tool? Is it any good or have crippling bugs as well? ---
