Hi all, I’m an ex Novell Network Admin, I’ve recently moved to a new company and I’m trying to implement iFolder on the Network, I have OpenSuse 11 and have installed iFolder and can use the Web Management fine, users can login and use it also. The biggest problem is… On the Windows 7 Clients I have installed iFolder client but for some reason it wont connect to server. I have tried multiple user accounts and have SSL enabled on the server, but I get to the end of the setup of iFolder and I get an error that says: “An error was encountered trying to connect to the server!” Im pretty sure I have got the server address right as it’s asked me to acknowledge the Certificates. Anyone got any ideas ??? [http://www.novell.com/products/filr/](http://www.novell.com/products/filr/) Using openSUSE won’t be supported as a backend but it may potentially work by leveraging OpenLDAP & Samba. – Does this washcloth smell like chloroform? ---

good stuff thanks for the advice, Ideally i’m looking for opensource as we have limited spends. Im also looking for a solution similar to iFodler in which we have control of and it would run on our RedHat family servers. I need to implement this now really, As we have got sales guys who go out and about seeing clients etc, unfortunately we arn’t allowed to use Dropbox otherwise we would. iFolder seems the solution for us. We would just like to get the clients up & running. We are a new ISP, and have compliancy rules to abide by and one of them is data management for our mobile workers. This is where and why we cant use Dropbox because its not centrally managed, whereas iFolder we control the access and the content and the actual servers themselves. We like iFolder, It does the job. It’s just the client we cannot get working for some reason. The client version is 3.9. We also tout that you can leave your files where they exist today on your file server though that typically means NetWare/OES/Windows. However if your file servers are, say, Red Hat in theory it should work (assuming you’re running OpenLDAP & Samba) but again the RHEL servers wouldn’t officially be supported. In fact if you aren’t going to worry about stuff being supported, then the virtualization piece may not be a problem. Filr is a virtual appliance and officially it only supports VMware (you could of course run the free ESXi hypervisor to do this), but we have customer using Xen reporting that it works. [color=blue] > We like iFolder, It does the job.[/color] I’m not sure how much development the community is doing for the open source version of iFolder, but from our standpoint we’re not doing a ton of development with it anymore. It’s still officially supported for our NetWare and OES customers, and continues to receive bug fixes (especially on OES), but all of our future development is with Filr. Plus if you’re users are talking about wanting something like Dropbox then iFolder really isn’t it since there aren’t any mobile clients for iFolder. – Does this washcloth smell like chloroform? ---

Thanks for that, We dont worry about mobile devices except for Windows laptops, which are connected to our network via VPN, this is where we have our iFolder clients. I suppose the biggest issue here is cost, we have very limited budget but we need the solutions in order to help us moving forward. I will look at how filr will benefit us in the future, and for now I’ll keep cracking on trying to get the iFolder clients to work. Perhaps there’s some community forums site for the open source iFolder project? – Does this washcloth smell like chloroform? ---
