running the command line version with various standard environment
variables specifying the corporate proxy, results in:
wave-mn:~ # suse\_register -a [email=me@a.com](mailto:email=me@a.com) -a regcode-sles=mycode
ERROR: Timeout was reached: (28)
(2)
ERROR: Timeout was reached: (28)
(2)
I’m assuming that some kind of network issue is responsible, but the
error codes are not very intuitive. Any ideas?

Your proxy should should accept Novell domain (or at least selected
sites used like [nu.novell.com](http://nu.novell.com) and [secure.novell.com](http://secure.novell.com)) without
authentication.
You need to populate proxy setting in YAST and to add two lines
with your proxy information to /etc/profile, for example:
export http\_proxy=“[http://10.10.1.1:8081/](http://10.10.1.1:8081/)”
export https\_proxy=“[https://10.10.1.1:8081/](https://10.10.1.1:8081/)”
As well as the /root/.curlrc

I had various proxy vars in my environment already, like:
export http\_proxy=[http://xyz.oracle.com:80](http://xyz.oracle.com:80)
export https\_proxy=[https://xyz.oracle.com:80/](https://xyz.oracle.com:80/)
And I added this to yast \> network services \> proxy as well as
~/.bash\_profile. I tried adding to ~/.curlrc but got errors:
Warning: /root/.curlrc:1: warning: ‘http\_proxy’ had unsupported
trailing
Warning: garbage
Warning: /root/.curlrc:2: warning: ‘https\_proxy’ had unsupported
trailing
Warning: garbage
Where curl is 7.19.0 and the .curlrc had this:
http\_proxy=[http://xyz.oracle.com:80](http://xyz.oracle.com:80)
https\_proxy=[https://xyz.oracle.com:80](https://xyz.oracle.com:80)
I searched the internet and it seems that there are some issues with
setting http proxies in .curlrc. I ran curl with -x $http\_proxy and
that had the same output as running without -x, which is the html from a
novell page that included stuff like this:
NOVELL: Novell Login - Error Page
So, it appears that it is working; i.e., it is connecting to novell and
getting a denial page.
Now, when I run curl, it just sits there, with no output. It has been
sitting there now for about 14 minutes, which seems kind of long, but
I’m willing to let it go longer, if that is what is required.

suse\_register finally finished with no message, but an exit code ($?) of
141. Not sure what that means, but I believe a failure, since:
wave-mn:~ # zypper repos

Hello,
Did anyone find the answer to this one?
I need to install read crash dump on SLES SP1, SP2, and SP3 and want to do it from the same server, I’m assuming if I have the correct kernel-debuginfo\* packages,
even if the OS is running SP3, it will still read crash dumps taken from SP2 and SP1 kernels?
But where on earth can you get the repos added. I can’t even find out where to download them. Do you really have to have a license subscription to get the packages? and even then where are they located.

Hi
If you check the Customer Center → My Products → Mirror Credentials
shows the user name and password, plus the URL’s (which includes the
debuginfo ones). Yes you need an active subscription to get updates
etc…

You need to have your system registered, which can be also be done with a free 60-day trial license. Registering the system will add the repositories to your system - if you ever loose those, i.e. because you delete them manually, simply rerun suse\_register without any parameters to get them re-added.
You may have to configure proxy settings (both in ~root/.curlrc and in /etc/sysconfig/proxy) to reach the registration service and repositories, depending on your setup. If your site is using an SMT server or SUSE Manager as a registration/update focal point, please contact that server’s admin for details.
