# Printer missing from Yast ---\> Hardware

Hi,
Running SLED 11sp3 with the Gnome desktop. I want to do some basic printing (mostly PDF and emails) to an IP printer. When I go to “YaST” and then “Hardware” there is no “Printer” listed. How do I now configure printing or put the printer icon back into YaST.

Hi
Setup your printer via the cups interface with a web browser,
[http://localhost:631](http://localhost:631) when adding the printer enter root/root password
when it asks.

Hi,
The modules “cups-client” and “cups-libs” is installed on the thin client. I have tried the “[http://localhost:631](http://localhost:631)” and “http://printer\_ip:9100” but no joy. I am trying to print to an IP printer on the local LAN. Oh, and I am logged in a “root”

It’s either one of;
```auto
Examples:
http://hostname:631/ipp/
http://hostname:631/ipp/port1
ipp://hostname/ipp/
ipp://hostname/ipp/port1
lpd://hostname/queue
smb://servername/printer
smb://username:password@workgroup/servername/printer
socket://hostname
socket://hostname:9100
```
I would find a system that has cups running and see if you can use cups
there to setup, then duplicate to the thin client. Plus there is
extensive help via the cups web interface.
No firewalls in the way etc? I’m assuming you can ping the printer from
the client?

Try installing the yast2-printer package (zypper install yast2-printer), this should add the Printer option to YaST.
