Dear johngoutbeck,  
I saw your post for the “ERROR: cluster.join: Cannot see peer node “nss-fs8”, please check the communication IP” and you solved this issues.  
and you said that you have a bug to fix this issue. could you please help me how to fix it? because I got the same your issues when I try to join the cluster.
