# Rancher / EC2 Reset Lost Data

When restarting my AWS Ec2 instance of Rancher, I lost all rancher data (even login information). Is there a documentation I can leverage to make sure that all of my rancher data doesn’t disappear when the rancher server restarts? Thanks!

The default embedded database is still persistent for the life of the container. Simply restarting the machine wouldn’t clear it, unless the underlying storage isn’t persistent.
