# Rancher server as an agent node

Hi Ranchers,

I have two machines. One is a powerful physical machine and a VirtualBox VM on my laptop. The Rancher Server is running on ROS in the VM. While trying to register the VM as an agent node to the rancher server(it self). It can’t be completed with the information as the screenshot.

- Can agent on the same ROS machine as rancher server?

- Here’s the /etc/hosts I have from both machines.

```auto
[root@ros-server ~]# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

127.0.1.1 ros-server
192.168.10.99 agent1

[root@agent1 ~]# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

127.0.1.1 agent1
192.168.99.2 ros-server
