How to set password hashing algorithm to sha512 in suse linux enterprise server 10 and 11.

I believe that SLES10 only supports des, md5 and blowfish.

For SLES11, you can change the cipher via yast in “Security and Users” - “Security Center and Hardening” - “Password Settings” - “Password Encryption Method” by selecting “SHA-512”.

Depending on your authentication setup (i.e. when using a centralized password store like NIS) you’ll have to make sure all your systems will support the selected hashing algorithm.
