I hope everyone affected by the fun weather in the US is doing ok. Our office was shutdown for a couple of days due to lots of snow and sub-zero temps (Fahrenheit). Windchill one day was about -40. I haven’t seen weather like this for quite some time. Ken ---

Ken: I won’t tell you what our temperatures have been here, but they’ve been a bit warmer than what you’ve been experiencing. The cold didn’t reach as southwest as we are. Good to know someone had the common sense to shut down a company and tell people to stay home. No one should be outside for any reason in that kind of weather! Here in Utah we missed out on the bitter cold. Snowing today which is much needed. I get a kick when they showed maps of the US with the cold dipping down and talking about the poor schmucks in Minnesota…but I’m thinking about the poor shmucks further North in Canada! – Kim - 1/8/2014 8:41:30 AM ---

The cars sit in the garage and we never lost power, so we were ok. A town a little north of us had a major power outage. I felt sorry for the power company linemen…having to restore power in that weather. Yikes. It is 14 degrees F right now…seems almost balmy by comparison. 🙂 ---

Fortunately temps are rising and we should be getting more snow in a day or two. ---

Yes, we’re in our third year of drought. There’s been no rain this season. We had one rain storm in September, one snowstorm in December, and nothing else. We have our fingers crossed the skies will open in February, if not sooner. and rain all spring. Yes, if you’re going to work for an electric company, better move south! I’ve heard that the arctic air is supposed to go back up to where it belongs, and temperatures get warmer over the next week. (said facetiously of course) In the past 10 years we’ve had one year that was above normal precipitation…and that was 5 years ago. We rely on reservoirs in this desert state, the 2nd driest in the US, and currently they are at 30% of normal fill for this time of year and so far this year we’re at about 70% of normal precipitation which isn’t enough to bring it up to usable levels. If we don’t get a lot more rain/snow from here until May, we’re in deep doodo. I think all of us here in the west, where the people from the East ignore us and we’re usually grateful for that, are lined up for some major water problems. – Kim - 1/9/2014 1:45:56 PM ---

Hey Kim, My friends and co-workers would agree with you - they all prefer the temps to be in the mid 20’s (Celcius). For some unknown reason I really enjoy hot weather - perhaps being born at this time of year when it is so hot has something to do with it. But then I must add that I don’t have to do manual work outside in the full sun. You will enjoy this for the joke it is… my mom had air conditioners installed in my home as she couldn’t cope with the heat and humidity where I live. I only use them in winter to warm my place up 😉 I sincerely hope that you get more precipitation and can avoid having water shortages. Hey Kim, LOL, I don’t cope too well with the Northern hemisphere from about October through to April! My South African version of a snow jacket was purchased in 2010. I have lost 33 Kg’s since then. I am loathe to buy a new jacket that I won’t get much use of. I guess that I will be the Michelin Man at BrainShare in November.
