Hi, I am new in suse and I like to find out if yast is an different tool from suse manager. If yes,how I perform network installation with yast and with suse manager. tnx a lot, marius ---

Hi and welcome 🙂 Do you mean AutoYaST, rather than just YaST? If you use SUSE Studio, this include SUSE Manager to create and deploy images. Perhaps some more details on what your wanting to achieve? ---

Yast is the server/desktop-side application that configures everything in SUSE-land. Included in that is technology to handle installation of software from configured software repositories. Yast is great and does a ton of stuff on the machine. If, during the start of the installation, the installer is pointed to a specific software repository (like one hosted by SUSE Manager), Yast will pull data from there instead of a CD/DVD or whatever. SUSE Manager is software to help manage patches. It hosts the software repository or repositories for SUSE installations. It is neat because it lets you do some really powerful things with patches to help protect production machines from patches until they are properly tested, meaning you can point dev, test, qa, and production systems at different repositories within SUSE Manager, manage which patches are visible to which types of machines, and then very safely apply only the patches necessary to the relevant machines. I believe it also lets you break out machines by type (PostgreSQL DB boxes, vs. web servers, vs. backup machines, vs. hosts for thin clients, vs directory servers, vs. file servers… etc.) so you can really easily control, for a decent number of systems (tens of thousands in at least one case of which I am aware), how patching works without touching every single receiver of the software. As a software repository, of course, SUSE Manager can also be used for installs. – Good luck. hi, so on install server I configure autoyast profile with yast2 resulting an control.xml.then on target side where I wish to install suse I use pxe boot.how many target servers could I install in parallel(tens,hundreds)?right? ---
