# V3 REST Api to deploy app from template

Hi,

I am trying to create app using v3 api. I’m making a post call to https://{instance\_address}/v3/project/{project id}/apps with json data

{  
“name”:“app-1234”,  
“namespace”: “app-1234”  
}

it is creating an empty app but I am unable to find parameter to pass template to deploy along with this payload.

Set `externalId` of the app to the`externalId` of a templateVersion (`/v3/templates` -\> pick a template, click on one of the `versionLinks`, get `externalId` of that version)

Hi, I’m new to rancher and I still have no idea how to deploy an app using API so can you tell me more in details ?  
What can I do after getting externalId ?
