Upgrading a SLES 11 SP2 server to SLES 11 SP3 using zypper using these
docs:
[https://www.suse.com/documentation/sles11/book\_sle\_deployment/data/sec\_update\_sle11sp1.html](https://www.suse.com/documentation/sles11/book_sle_deployment/data/sec_update_sle11sp1.html)

ran this:
zypper se -t product | grep -h – “-migration” | cut -d’|’ -f2

It returned both of these:
SUSE\_SLES-SP2-migration
SUSE\_SLES-SP3-migration

Solution 2: do not install
product:SUSE\_SLES-SP2-migration-11.1-1.6.x86\_64

So I am wondering whether I really need SUSE\_SLES-SP2-migration?
If I do need it, which Solution should I use?

Thanks!

Opened SR with NTS and found out I don’t need it.

Agreed - SUSE\_SLES-SP2-migration is for upgrading from SLES11 SP1 to
SLES11 SP2. How did the server get (to) SLES11 SP2? Was it a fresh
install or upgraded from SLES11 SP1? If the latter perhaps a different
procedure was followed?

That would explain it as the offline method doesn’t involve installing
SUSE\_SLES-SPx-migration.

This has certainly improved through the SLES versions and is also my
preferred method of upgrading (though it’s not a supported option for
upgrading to SLES12).
