Php7 status on SLES 15 SP7

Does someone know the status of php7 in SLES 15 SP7?

I noticed that SP7 includes only php8, but on 22/01/2026 a security update for php7 (SUSE-SU-2026:0245-1) was released.

I am a bit confused, can someone shed some light on this?

If you look at the announcement[1] for the security update of php7 you referenced (SUSE-SU-2026:0245-1) you may notice that “Legacy Module 15-SP7” is listed as an affected product and also under patch instructions. This is because with php8 being the preferred released, php7 is now considered legacy.

If you have the Legacy module enabled you should be able to install php7 (including the latest security update).

Thank you Simon for your reply.
Yes, I managed to install php7 and the referenced update, but I’m wondering if this package will be actively maintained in the future, including future security issues. SP7 EOS date is set to 31 Jul 2031.

I think the package will be maintained in the future as the the Legacy module has a support lifecycle of 10 years - see https://documentation.suse.com/sles/15-SP7/html/SLES-all/article-modules.html#art-modules-legacy .

As for how long the php7 package(s) themselves will be maintained within those 10 years (noting the 10 years is already ticking) I’m not sure anyone can say. Basically SUSE have moved SLES15 to PHP8 with PHP7 now considered legacy (hence the legacy module) - after all PHP7 hasn’t received any updates for over 3 years. Note SLES16 starts with PHP8.4.
