Hello experts,

I have some problem about sg_persist command:

root@hosta:/root > sg_persist --in --report-capabilities -v /dev/sdb
inquiry cdb: 12 00 00 00 24 00
VMware Virtual disk 1.0
Peripheral device type: disk
Persistent Reservation In cmd: 5e 02 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 00
persistent reservation in: transport: Host_status=0x10 [DID_TARGET_FAILURE]
Driver_status=0x08 [DRIVER_SENSE, SUGGEST_OK]

persistent reservation in: Fixed format, current; Sense key: Illegal Request
Additional sense: Invalid command operation code
Sense Key Specific: Error in Command byte 0
PR in: command not supported

root@hosta:/root > sg_persist /dev/sdb
>> No service action given; assume Persistent Reserve In command
>> with Read Keys service action
VMware Virtual disk 1.0
Peripheral device type: disk
persistent reservation in: transport: Host_status=0x10 [DID_TARGET_FAILURE]
Driver_status=0x08 [DRIVER_SENSE, SUGGEST_OK]

PR in: command not supported

Do you know any hint about how to analyze and solve this problem?

Thanks & Best Regards,
Tong Ning

Do you know any hint about how to analyze and solve this problem?

It will help to provide specifics of what's behind that virtual disk you're querying, persistent SCSI reservations need to be supported by the underlying layer.

Jens
