View Full Version : SLES 12 SP1 How to update systems inside a sealed network

Hi!

I might have a problem. In my company we have a sealed network in within two SLES12-SP1 are planned to be installed. How can we register and update these two servers without connecting the sealed network to the internet? I have seen that a SMT server is available that manages the updates for the local network. But it seems that this server must be connected to the internet, too... together with the managed clients. But this will not be possible. :(

Does anyone know a good solution for my scenario?

If neither your SLES12 SP1 servers or SMT server can have access
to the Internet then the only option I can currently think of is
to download patches via a machine that is and then transfer those
files to your SMT server. If nobody else does I'll post some
details later.

Ok, it would be possible to connect the SMT server once a month to the internet.
But the two clients must never be allowed to connect to the internet.

Note that you want to follow the "Setting up a SLES 12 SP1 disconnected SMT server environment" section of the TID (which is about halfway down) as the first deals with SMT11 registered against the Novell Customer Center (NCC) - SLES12 uses the SUSE Customer Center (SCC).

That's exactly what SMT provides. The clients never need to connect to
the internet, just to the SMT server. The SMT server however needs an
internet connection once in a while to download the patches.
