    problem finding libstdc++.so.5

    I am trying to install IBM Installation Manager 1.5.2 or 1.8.3 (I put two versions down since they both fail with the same error). My system attributes are:

    • Second level guest running under z/VM V6.3
    • sles12:~ # uname -a
    • Linux sles12 3.12.28-4-default #1 SMP Thu Sep 25 17:02:34 UTC 2014 (9879bd4) s390x s390x s390x GNU/Linux
    • 2 virtual processors
    • 4 GB of RAM
    • 4 x 3390 Mod 18 DASD
    • firewall and selinux are disabled

    I have pasted the error messages of the failing portion below. I believe the key problem lies with the messages: "JVMJ9VM011W Unable to load j9dmp24: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" I say this because I installed installation manager on Redhat 7.1, got the same messages and was able to resolve the issue by making sure the following are installed:
    compat-libstdc++
    32 bit versions of gtk2
    32 bit version of libXtst

    I have done the same thing on the SLES-12 system but still get the same error. The rpms I checke for are:
    sles12:~ # rpm -qa | grep libstdc++
    libstdc++-devel-4.8-6.189.s390x

    I have contacted IBM support and they also are working on the issue but I am not seeing a quick resolution. I thought I would try this forum to see if anyone else has hit this problem. Am I missing any rpms? Where is libstdc++.so.5 found on SLES12? This install creates a cored dump but I am not qualified to look at the dump.

    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am on a deadline!!

    Hi geneong,

    you should find that lib in the Legacy Module for SLES 12, in the libstdc++33 RPM. (See YaST - Add-Ons - Add - "Extensions and Modules from Registration Server...")
